These hirachawan, also known as shallow rice bowls, are long-selling items designed by the celebrated ceramics designer Masahiro Mori. Since its launch in 1992, his "Shallow Rice Bowl" series has won the Good Design Award in 1993 and the Long Life Design Award in 2004. The design is based on traditional rice bowls; however, they are great for serving other small dishes, snacks, and desserts. The shallow depth makes them easy to hold, allows the designs to be seen, and complements the contents.
