A Kendama is a traditional Japanese skill toy featuring a wooden handle (ken) with a ball (tama) attached by a string. It's similar in concept to the ball-and-cup game but more complex, with multiple cups and a spike (kensaki) that can be used to catch the ball. Players perform tricks by swinging the ball and catching it on different parts of the handle.
The competitive Kendama scene in Japan is well-established, with the Japan Kendama Association (JKA) being the primary organizing body since 1975. They hold official competitions and certify players through a ranking system.
Yamagata Koubou has over 40 years of experience making the highest standard Kendama and is certified as Japan's "No.1" manufacturer of competitive kendama.
