Kannawa Hot Springs is one of the eight famous hot springs of Beppu, located in Oita Prefecture.
Rooted in the Japanese tradition of touji (bath healing) culture, HAA embraces the idea of creating space for deep breaths and slow living.
Historically, touji offered farmers a restorative pause during the agricultural off-season—a time to rest, reflect, and renew. HAA draw from this philosophy to shape a modern lifestyle grounded in wellbeing and everyday moments of calm.
HAA aims to provide a lifestyle with room for deep breaths, like 'haaaaaah', through the bath salt that utilize local materials in Japan.
From Yunohana Onsen
The care behind “HAA for bath” lies in its ingredients and time-honoured process.
It takes nearly three months to make, starting with yunohana—mineral-rich hot spring crystals that have been made in Beppu for over 350 years. These crystals only react to the blue clay found in the mountain of Beppu.
Artisans spread this clay over the floors of yunohana huts to create a clay bed, then carefully nurture the crystals for 40 to 70 days, depending on the season.
Once collected, the crystals are gently soaked in Beppu hot spring water for a month to purify them, then refined into a rich amber essence.
The yunohana essence is carefully blended with balancing minerals and rested for a full day and night. This process enhances the quality of the bathwater, making it so gentle that even three-month-old babies can bathe in it.
HAA for Bath is a quiet celebration of slowness, craftsmanship, and the natural beauty of Beppu’s landscape.
Dissolve approximately 30g to 60g of bath salt per 200L bathtub of hot water. Stir well before bathing.
The bathwater can also be used for washing the face and hair.
